ACS wins climate drama competition

Update: 2:24PM ADI CAKOBAU School students only had 48 hours to put together a drama piece on Climate Change which won first place at the central division COP23 activities which took place Suva Grammar School yesterday.

The Year 10-02 students put on a drama which personified Earth and showed the effects of development and pollution.

The students English teacher Aqela Tuiwainunu said the students were informed of the competition on Tuesday so the form was chosen because they aren't having exams tomorrow like the other senior forms.

The students used only allocated english classes over three days and one day to practice before participating at yesterdays COP23 competition.

"I for one wish to acknowledge this current Minister for Education and Permanent Secretary for making the kids be part of this great awareness programs," Ms Tuiwainunu said.

"This is the first time ever to have a Pantomime competition organized for Secondary schools."

Major schools around the country took part in the Pantomime Competition, Poster Competition, Oratory Competition and Poetry Competition around the theme "Leadership, Action and COP23".

The competition is also searching for a child between 8 to 13 years old who will travel with the Fiji delegation to the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

COP23 will take place in Bonn, Germany in November.
