Kumar: Boreholes not ideal source

BOREHOLES would pose a major challenge during dry seasons, says Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Transport and Infrastructure, Parveen Kumar.

Mr Kumar suggested that settlements and households using boreholes as water source are to contemplate investing in other means for water supply.

"I suggest that you don't rely on boreholes because when the dry season comes, they dry up. That is why we are recommending people to buy water tanks and we will cart water to them," he said

Mr Kumar told residents of Nalovo settlement on Wednesday that they are to look for alternative solutions to their water problems rather than resorting to boreholes.

Water Authority of Fiji's CEO Opetaia Ravai said water would be delivered to Nalovo settlement on a weekly basis to assist residents affected.
