Farmers warned on grants

SUGARCANE farmers who are given grants to plant new crops and fail to do so will be cut off from future cane growing assistance programs, says Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Graham Clark.

Mr Clark said any FSC employee found to be complicit in such schemes would be taken to task.

Speaking at a press conference in Lautoka on Monday, he said he had noted anecdotal evidence that some farmers applied for grants, received it and abused it.

"We are aware of some people making it appear as though fields have been ploughed but they are really just doing a scratch job on the surface," he said.

"Let me just say this to you, you will get caught out very quickly.
