THE Kasavu Football Club has qualified for the National Club Championship (NCC) after 73 years.

It is the first time the club will be competing in the annual tournament since its formation.

Thanks to former national rep and Rewa defender, Lorima Dau, Samuela Kautoga, Peniame Drova and Gabriel Matanasiga, the Nausori-based team is pooled with Lokia Landing Football Club and Bureta FC in the NCC which starts this weekend at Ratu Cakobau Park for the southern zone and Prince Charles Park in Nadi for West teams.

Dau, 34, said "I am thankful to the people of Kasavu and SAF Communications for helping us with our training gear, uniform and everything that we need during the two-day tournament.

"We also have Joela Baledrokadroka, who will be our goalkeeper, and not forgetting the young players who are part of the team because they challenged us to work hard this season and enabled us to qualify.

"This is the first time for Kasavu and it is always the hardest part to come out and do wonders. We are going to give it our best."

Vodafone Fiji had given $15,000 towards the championship as part of their second-year sponsorship.

Sponsorship manager Adriu Vakarau said they were proud to support the development of the game.

There are nine clubs from the South and West nominated and none from the North.

The winner gets $5000 while the runner-up will walk away with $1500.
