Coach wary of Eagles

DESPITE having home ground advantage, the Fiji Airways Drua will not be complacent as the team prepares to face New South Wales Country Eagles in the National Rugby Championship at Lawaqa Park on Saturday.

The Senirusi Seruvakula-coached side began training at Sigatoka on Tuesday since retuning home after two matches in Australia.

The team worked on strengthening its defence and maintaining discipline — two key areas the team needs to build on.

The second training session was at Lawaqa Park yesterday.

"We had to step to another level against Melbourne Rising. They are a good team," Seruvakula said.

"There are some Super Rugby players there, but the main emphasis was that we needed a win and that was the game last week."

He said Peni Naulago was in doubt because of injury and lock Apisai Tauyavuca was also out for four weeks because of injury.

"The competition is tough and NSW were the finalists last year. Both our home games are against last year's finalists as we play Perth Spirit next week. It's going to be tough games.

"It doesn't matter if we're playing at home, we have to be playing smart rugby and maintain our discipline for the full 80 minutes."

Seruvakula said there was no card at all (versus Melbourne Rising) so that's showed we were working on something and we had to keep that momentum of having discipline.

"Putting guys in the sin bin, the team will suffer straightaway because in this competition you need 15 players for the full 80 minutes.

"As we saw in the first game, as soon as one of the players was sent off, they scored tries and that's the message to the boys every week, to be very disciplined in all games."

The match will be held at Lawaqa Park at 3pm on Saturday.
