Chamber plans for a tourism focus festival in Jet Set Town

THE Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industries is hoping to start a tourism focused festival in the Jet Set Town.

NCCI president Dr Ram Raju said the festival would cater for Nadi's tourism industry.

"Most districts have more than one festival while Nadi has only one big festival each year and that is the Bula Festival," he said.

"We are intending to have another festival known as the Tourism Festival.

"This has been a plan of ours for a while."

He said the festival would actively involve Nadi's many tourism operators.

"We have seen that most of our tourist operators are not actively participating in the Nadi Bula Festival.

"There have been a few issues we are aware of but we think that Nadi deserves to have another festival.

"I think the Tourism Festival will attract a lot of interest.

"Hopefully this festival will become as big as the Nadi Bula Festival."

He said the NCCI was one of the first groups to be involved in the establishment of the Nadi Bula Festival.

"We had actually started it and during that time it started as a health week and then later became the Nadi Bula Festival.

"We think that we have a lot to gain from this Tourism Festival.

"There will be an interim committee for this and we have invited some very active and outgoing people that we can trust to work on this.

"They are very keen on starting this festival and the chamber of course is going to take a leading role in this."
