Seavula secures US track scholarship

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Update: 4:42PM RECEIVING a track scholarship at William Carey University has boosted the spirit of track star Sisilia Seavula to never give up on her dreams.

The 22-year-old Olympian had completed her course of study at Southwest Community College in Creston Iowa, United States, last year and was later offered a track scholarship to further her studies in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Majoring in Business with a marketing and management concentration, Seavula said she was currently in her third week of studies at the university, and so far she was enjoying the experience.

"I felt so blessed and super excited when I had to sign my contract because my main aim in Junior College was to get another two years scholarship here in America," she said.

"Also, the scholarship that I was offered in 2015 was for only two years` and I had to work hard both in the classroom and at track competitions to secure another university scholarship. I am hoping to also do my Masters while I'm still here."

She said they were still into their pre-season and had just begun training for their first track meet in November.

The former Saint Joseph's Secondary School student dedicated her achievement to her mum Akeneta Seavula, brother Viliame Seavula and Aunty Lusia Sarogo for helping her financially and supporting her decision to pursue her studies in the US.

"I encourage people to always set their priorities right. When you know what you want, don't let anything or anyone sway you from achieving those goals. Remember to always put God first," she added.

Seavula is also joined by Fijian sprinter Younis Bese at William Carey University with the track scholarship majoring in Business and Accounting.
