PNG region records 5.4 magnitude quake

Update: 2:43PM THE Papua New Guinea region registered a 5.4 magnitude earthquake yesterday morning.

The seismic activity was recorded at 10.41am and occurred at a depth of 161km.

The Seismology Unit of Fiji's Department of Mineral Resources reported that the moderate size earthquake was located 151km North from Easthern New Guinea, 1481km West-Northwest from Honiara, Solomon Is, and 3681km Northwest from Suva, Fiji.

It also assured that this seismic event did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.
