Untapped lucrative market

SHRIMP and prawn farming has an untapped lucrative market, says Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau.

While speaking to the Nadi business community on Saturday, he said Fiji imported $20 million worth of shrimps annually which could be avoided if there was more interest from locals to farm the marine organism.

"Shrimp is a very interesting issue," he said.

"It can be found in Fiji but we are importing $20 million worth of shrimp and it's one of the easiest marine organisms that can be bred locally.
