Judge steps down

JUSTICE Thushara Rajasinghe has approved an application by 10 lawyers representing former workers of the Public Works Department to recuse himself from hearing the matter.

Ana Laqere, Amelia Vunisea, Vaciseva Lagai,Vilisi Tuitavuki, Laisa Halafi, Tavenisa Tavaga, Kiniviliame Taviraki, Shalendra Kumar, Saleshni Bikash, Roshni Lata, Abdul Shariff and Rajneil Anitma have been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for corruption related charges under three separate files.

Ms Laqere, Ms Vunisea, Ms Lagai, Ms Tuitavuki, Ms Halafi, Ms Tavaga, Mr Taviraki and Mr Kumar are charged with seven counts of abuse of office, 14 counts of causing a loss and one count of obtaining a financial advantage in the criminal case No. HAC 53 of 2014.

Ms Laqere, Ms Vunisea, Ms Lagai, Ms Tuitavuki, Ms Halafi, Ms Tavaga, Mr Taviraki, Mr Bikash and Ms Lata are charged with seven counts of abuse of office, 33 counts of causing a loss and two counts of obtaining a financial advantage in the criminal case No. HAC 99 of 2014.

Ms Lagai, Ms Halafi, Ms Vunisea, Ms Laqere, are again charged with Mr Shariff and Ms Wati with four counts of abuse of office, two counts of causing a loss and two counts of obtaining a financial advantage in the criminal case No. HAC 193 of 2014.
