Generator theft sparks safety measures

Felix Chaudhary
Wednesday, August 16, 2017

GOVERNMENT will ensure that infrastructure built to assist vulnerable communities are kept secure after the theft of a generator from a New Zealand Government-funded evacuation centre at Narata, Nadroga, recently.

Details of the theft were not clear.

Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau made the comments after the centre was completed and outfitted with a water tank and a generator to provide electricity should there be power outages during a cyclone or flood event.

Thieves broke into the centre, destroying a door, allegedly to gain entry, ripping the generator off its mounting before making off with it.
