VODAFONE Fiji under-16 women's football team books a place in the final after a 2-0 win over the Cook Islands in the 2017 OFC Women's U16 Championship in Samoa on Friday.

The Marika Rodu-coached side recorded two wins over American Samoa 4-1 and then defeated the Cook Islands in their final pool matches.

In the game against the Cooks, Fiji's goal was scored by Eseta Sinukula in the 24th minute after sprinting through the defence and placing the ball into the net.

Fiji led 1-0 at half time.

Fiji extended their lead in the 90th minute through Dilaisana Drodrolagi who kicked the penalty after Vani Bainivalu was fouled inside the penalty box.

"It was amazing to see the girls push up to another level today," Rodu told OFC Media.

Rodu said he was extremely happy with the performance of the team.

"I thought it was going to be mission impossible just looking at the Cook Islands team and their two strong wins but we didn't let that get us down.

"We made sure we did our homework, compacted the midfield and focused on using the counter attack and managed to get the result," he added.

"The girls' performances have been progressing since day one.

"Today (Friday) we played the match that we have never played before — not here in Samoa and not back home in Fiji."
