VODAFONE Fiji Bati prop Eloni Vunakece considers himself as fortunate to play for Fiji in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup starting in October.

Vunakece, 30, who was the chief guest at yesterday's Kaila! Star Search finals last night, came to Fiji to promote rugby league in the country.

"I am preparing hard for the Rugby League World Cup. We will play against some of the very good teams in the world. We should be prepared to play some of the strongest players and teams in the world," he told this newspaper.

"We had some good test against Tonga in the mid-season Test match where we lost to them, but we have got to better our last two WC performances. I am here to promote the great game of rugby league that I am fortunate enough to play and luckily enough of representing Fiji. I want to do my part to grow the awareness of our current position in Australia and Fiji."

His father, Ratu Meli Vunaceke was from Fiji while his mother Julie Cooper was from Australia.

Vunakece plays for the Sydney Roosters in the Australia National Rugby League competition.

The Fiji Bati will play the USA on October 28 at Townsville Stadium in Australia, Wales on November 5 and Italy on November 10.
