FIJI Football Association technical director Ravinesh Kumar has highlighted the need in developing women's football in the country.

He made the comments at the launch of the Vodafone Women's Senior League at the Fiji FA headquarters in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

"Fiji FA's long-term development plan for women's football focuses on increasing the number of footballers at all levels, equal access for girls and women in the country," he said.

"We want to raise the profile of women coaches, women to be part of the board of control in every district association in Fiji, women's involvement in decision-making process, and fighting discrimination in sport and the society as a whole."

Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar launched the league.

"Over the past decade, more and more opportunities for women to become involved in sports have arisen and women sports participation is greater than ever.

"To the coaches, parents, families, and friends, without your tremendous support, these players wouldn't be here today for this tournament.

"As such, I applaud you for the countless support, sleepless nights and dedication that you have given to the players."

The 13 districts including Navua, Lami, Suva, Nasinu, Rewa and Tailevu Naitasiri from Southern Division, Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba from Western Division while Labasa, Savusavu, and Seaqaqa from the Northern Division will compete in the competition.
