Training workshop

FIJI National Sports Commission will conduct a week-long train the trainer workshop called adapting and inclusive physical activities and sports after receiving $US100,000 ($F201,875) given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.

The grant was supported by the United Nations office of the sports development and peace to create, develop, monitor and assess for inclusiveness in physical activities and sport with learners of disabilities in schools in Fiji.

"The commission will conduct a week-long train the trainer workshop called "adapting and inclusive physical activities and sports", where we aim to provide everyone, teachers, parents and care-givers with the tools and teaching aids to ensure students with disabilities and special needs have the opportunities to participate in physical activity and sport through an inclusive environment," the press statement read.

"This workshop will assist us to develop programs and teaching aid to ensure that the rights of every person with any disability are protected and they enjoy access to physical education, sport, and physical activity."

The workshop will be held at De Vos on the Park on Monday.

"Our goals can only be achieved in a co-operative and inclusive manner and we need the input of every one present at this workshop to enable us to prepare an adaptive education manual for teachers and students alike," the statement further read.

"It will be their expertise, understanding, and experience that will ensure a successful outcome to this project."

Assistant Minister for Ministry of Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana will be the chief guest.
