Wadigi 7s team to host event

THE Wadigi 7s team will be hosting a 7s tournament to fund the team's airfares and expenses to three rugby tournaments in Australia.

The side comprises of unemployed youths from Lauwaki Village, Lautoka, who depend on their rugby talents to secure good future for their families.

Club president Apimeleki Nasalo said these boys had been playing 7s locally for many years unfortunately only few had secured better future through rugby.

He said one of the main objectives of taking the team to Australia was to expose their rugby skills with the aim of securing overseas contracts.

"We are doing our fundraising drives which include the Wadigi Salvos 7s tournament to raise money for the tour," said Nasalo.

"We have many talented players in the village and exposing them to overseas games will inspire them to train hard with the aim of securing overseas contracts.

"These boys are mostly school drop-outs and we believe through rugby they can secure employments to best support their families," Nasalo said.
