5.2 mag earthquake in Tonga region

Update: 7:53PM A MODERATE earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale was recorded in the Tonga region this afternoon.

The seismic activity was located 569km East from Ono-i-Lau, 214km East-northeast from Nukua'lofa, Tonga and 907km East-southeast from Suva.

The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department assured that this offshore earthquake did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.
