Rough night

My friends and I were eagerly awaiting the release of Rough Night. We had seen the trailer and planned to watch this movie together.

So on the day the movie was released, we went down to the cinemas, loaded ourselves with junk and geared up for a laugh-out-loud (LOL) session, and yes, we did laugh out very loud throughout the movie.

You should be warned that Rough Night is an over-the-top bachelorette party of five gone really wrong.

The party of five are played by Scarlett Johansson (politician Jess), Jillian Bell (mother of two and teacher Alice), Zoe Kravitz (recently separated, fighting for custody Blair) and Ilana Glazer (activist, lesbian Frankie).

Kate McKinnon known as Pippa plays Jess's Australian best friend who enters a little later in the movie, the fifth of the four friends in the movie.

Trust the movie to have binge drinking, crude sexual situations, drug use, and strong language so that should tell you something about the R16 rating.

The night takes a turn for the worst when the ladies decide to invite a male stripper to perform at the classy new beach house. The man arrives at the screen and the ladies encourage him to strip down, excited Alice jumps on him, he falls back, hits his head and dies.

The dead stripper's body stars in a number of visual jokes such as hanging in a leather sex swing with a goofy mask on, kissed by a woman trying not to let others discover he is dead and on a car's sunroof with sunnies on.

Despite all the craziness of trying to cover up the death, the friends are eventually brought closer together when it matters the most.

There are plenty of puns in Rough Night that don't work such as the overly obvious role-reversal stunt of having Jess's fiancee stage a bachelor party (a ridiculously unreal evening of wine-tasting).

However, Peter's all-night long drive to Miami to rescue Jess (that's another story) gets funnier as it goes along.

OK, settled Rough Night is about five friends trying to escape a murder charge but the way in which the ladies play out their imperfections and use their strengths to get out of their ever increasing danger is somehow motivating or is it just me?

Oh, and Demi Moore makes a cameo as Lea as well as Tyler Burrell as Pietro and Enrique Murciano as Detective Ruiz. Overall, Rough Night is a great comedy movie.
