AMATEUR Abid Hussain and professionals Apenisa Koroicure, Tomasi Tuivuna and Zoheer Ahmed will join Sam Lee to represent the country at the Fiji International which will be played at the Natadola Bay Golf Course in August.

Hussain, Koroicure, Tuivuna and Ahmed took out the top four placings during the local qualifying tournament for the Fiji International at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club course in Nadi yesterday. Hussain won the event scoring two under par 142 after the total 36 holes.

Koroicure, Tuivuna and Ahmed finished with even par 144. Fiji PGA president David Roche said the final round was taking place with ideal conditions for scoring at the Denarau course.

"Players found the going tough over the front nine with overnight leader Hussain shooting three over par," Roche said.

"Koroicure fired two over par.

"The move came from Tuivuna with two under and Amitesh Chandra from Laucala Island with four under."

Roche said there were a number of players in contention for the top four finish at the halfway mark.

"Denarau professional Bill Sugutaraga had hung tough, but a double bogey on the 18th hole sunk his hopes," he said.

"Ahmed fired back with three under to go with his front nine score of even par to book his place. Tuivuna with an even par on the back nine scored 70 to secure his spot.

"Chandra who finished with a 69 and with Hussain shooting 73, needed Koroicure to bogey the last to have a chance of a playoff.

"However as Koroicure rolled in his par putt, Chandra's chances were gone and he secured the final spot. We would like to thank the club manager Tony Treeve and golf course maintenance manager Ryan Markwell for the great course condition and the length of the Denarau layout certainly challenged the players."

The Fiji International will be played from August 17-20.
