For better, for worse, Burotu ties the knot

"To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part."

The lifetime wedding vow above marked a new rugby journey for former Fiji 7s captain Seremaia Burotu.

The France-based rugby star finally sealed his eight years of relationship with the love of his life Eleni Tinai Waqasokolala in an emotional wedding ceremony at Korovou Village, Tavua, yesterday — witnessed by renowned rugby players, villagers, friends and loved ones. The hard-hitting rugby player said it was an emotional moment that would be cherished for the rest of his life.

Burotu first met his angel during the 2009 Wellington 7s when he toured New Zealand with the Fiji 7s team.

He said he was fortunate to finally marry a gorgeous wife, loving partner and best friend and to spend the rest of his life with.

"It was an emotional occasion to celebrate this big day without dad who passed away a few months ago."

His wife echoed the similar sentiments on the new chapter of their love-life. "It's a special day," said Tinai.

"It has been long since we first met and finally we are excited with the wedding. The past eight years was a challenge especially the long-distance relationship, but we managed to overcome all obstacles to come this far."

Tinai hails from the hidden paradise of Savusavu. Former All Blacks flyer Jo Rokocoko and former Flying Fijians pace-man Sireli Bobo congratulated the newlyweds. The duo were joined by their wives. Also present was Olympian Kitione Taliga and Toulon new signing Filipo Nakosi — the brother of Josua Tuisova.
