AUCKLAND Tonga thumped Fijiana FANZ 42-22 in the Digicel Punjas International Secondary Schools Netball Challenge at the Vodafone Arena yesterday.

The Tongan girls dominated all quarters and showcased pure talent after suffering a 29-43 defeat at the hands of the Fiji team in their first game.

The girls regrouped and took advantage of their skills and height leading the points 14-3 in the first quarter.

They proved too strong and pressured the Fijiana team to extend their lead to 27-7 in the second quarter.

Fijiana team had the service of Matila Vocea as their goal shooter trying her best to put in all the goals, but were not successful.

They trailed 36-12 in the third quarter.

Tonga coach Diane Pakau said the girls started strong in the first quarter and kept going until the last quarter.

"I enjoyed watching them play and a bonus for me because I was able to use all my girls.

"Credit to Fijiana FANZ, they never gave up and we had some work on as a team trying to get all the goals in which our shooters did perfectly well.

"We started strong and ended with a strong note," Pakau said.

FANZ assistant coach Gabriel Qoro said they picked up momentum in every game they played in the past few days.

"The result showed tired bodies, they were fatigued and that led to our downfall.

"We are satisfied with the girl's performance bearing in mind that we came to train together for only three days.

"I am happy with our results," Qoro said.

Fijiana FANZ went down to South Africa 24-40 in their first game.
