Baby Pearls wins clash

THE Baby Pearls won their last game against Fiji Secondary Schools 40-24 in the Digicel Punjas International Secondary Schools Netball Challenge at the Vodafone Arena yesterday.

Both teams were impressive in their performances as the FSS gave the Pearls a tough game to lead 8-9 in the first quarter.

The Pearls dominated all quarters with Lydia Panapasa and Jimaima Kete teaming up again and doing wonders moving up the scores to 19-12 in the second quarter.

FSS tried to come back in the third quarter but the Pearls with their U21 national reps proved their worth keeping them at bay with in the third quarter to lead 30-18.

Pearls coach Filomena Korovulavula said the girls really reflected so well after their games on Thursday as they talked about their weaknesses.

"We kept encouraging them when they play to always take the opportunity when they see one.

"We spoke to them on handling the pressure in the court because one of the main areas we saw was that they were passing the ball anyhow and whenever they had the chance.

"They don't stop and look at the person to pass, they just pass to whoever they see and we know they are pressured.

"Our fellow sisters gave us a good game but when it came to fitness we were on top and I knew from the start of the game that it would be tough because both teams had the strength," Korovulavula said.

FSS coach Josua Qalo said they came out satisfied after a good performance.

"The girls have learnt a lot I guess we gave them a tough go in this match.

"Like a saying goes the fittest will survive and they have won today.

"We really lacked in our fitness and but other than that they have the techniques and the skills," Qalo said.
