BABY Pearls goal attack Jimaima Kete is happy with her performance as she helped her team win against the Fiji Secondary Schools team in the week-long Digicel Punjas International Secondary Schools Netball Challenge.

The Matuku, Lau lass said she really connected well with shooter Lydia Panapasa in all their games.

"We know our game plan as she tries to distract the defenders because of her height and I have the free space to myself so when the mid court players see that she is tied up they look down to the base where I will be waiting for that pass so we're good combination.

"We've learnt a lot from all the games that we've played, the competition is really tough.

"Our coaches advised us to always play smart and to be strong," Kete said.

She said experiencing international tournament at a young age was a good learning experience.

"We went to New Zealand when I was in Year 8 for the Veiuto Primary School U13 challenge.

She said her parents helped her and they trained in the shooting position.

"They built a goal post at our back yard and my mum will help me shoot at any angle, so I kept doing it until now," she said.

The Suva Grammar Student said becoming a national rep was not an easy task because you had to earn it.

"We struggled a lot and to have a spot in the national team you have fight for it, train hard, listen to the coach and focus on your goal," she said.

"I get motivated when people started cheering for us it's a bit scary but when you get use to it you will see the flow of the game," she said.
