7s star in the making

A NEW rugby star was unearthed at the 30th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament as he superbly led his Taveuni side to create another piece of history for the event.

Known by to his fans as Fiji's Rosco "Specman", Anare Tevita was in top form scoring two tries in the final to help his team down Uluinakau 15-0. The dreadlocked forward played a vital role for his team and the best moment of the game was when he won an aerial battle at the beginning of the second spell to race away untouched.

The 20-year old was tough in defence and his sheer pace was a thorn to his opposition.

His sterling performance enabled him to win the best player award as he set his focus on chasing his dream of wearing the national 7s jumper.

Tevita was part of the Taveuni team that won the Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s in January this year. He thanked the Almighty Lord for his team's win and also for the talent he is blessed with.

Tevita also thanked his teammates for their effort that resulted in their win yesterday.

"We were confident of our chances and I thank the boys for their effort," he said.

"This is a great win for the team and I thanked the Almighty for blessing this team with this great win."

Tevita said his aim was to secure a spot in the national 7s team.

He said he had been playing 7s for the past years and would continue to chase his dream.

"I love this game so much and I have sacrificed my time at training.

"My aim is to secure a spot in the Fiji 7s team - I know it will be tough but I will not stop trying."

He said his long term goal was to secure an overseas contract.
