THE Fiji 7s team is likely to bring in 7s rugby deadliest arsenal in its search for a win in the 2016/2017 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

While the Vodafone-sponsored national side is yet to win a title this season, two of the best forwards in the code were among players who attended the fitness test at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.

Isake Katonibau, regarded the best general on the field and Pio Tuwai, the best off-loader in the code were not named in the 21-member squad released by the Fiji Rugby Union on Sunday, but their return yesterday was kept under wraps as coach Gareth Baber started the Hong Kong preparation with a fitness test.

There was also a media ban on the test.

In an earlier interview coach Gareth Baber said he had not closed the door to selection, especially as Fiji looked for the first win in the series.

"There are people around the 7s program who have played for Fiji and if they have something to offer for us, whatever capacity that is, then I am willing to look at it," he said.

Katonibau was instrumental in Army Green's win in the Uluinakau 7s in Nausori a fortnight ago.

"I have never met Isake and I am going to meet him next week and have a chat with him and obviously he has a good reputation," Baber said.

Baber met Tuwai who arrived at the test with West-based players. Other notable returns are Amenoni Nasilasila, Donasio Ratubuli and Jasa Veremalua, who missed the last leg for family commitments. Baber is likely to scout more talents at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s this weekend at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

Fiji is third on the points standings with 100 points and trails leaders South Africa on 126 points and England on 105.
