JODI Smith, the CEO of Ranadi Plantation Partnership, was in Amsterdam in the Netherlands earlier this week to attend the two-day 2016 Global GAP (Global Agricultural Practices) Summit.

During the summit Ranadi Plantation, along with three other farms, were awarded the prestigious Global GAP Award for 2016.

Ms Smith, while on her way to receive the award, told The Fiji Times that they had to apply for Global GAP certification because it was a requirement of one of their buyers.

"We had our first audit which revealed we were only 40 per cent compliant and it took us three months of intensive work to get the farm up to standard, but once we achieved full compliance we realised the importance of the GAP certification," she said.

Ms Smith said her team at Ranadi was thrilled when they heard the news they had won the award.

"It felt like we'd won a gold at the Olympics."
