Fiji declares State of Natural Disaster

Update: 5:40PM GOVERNMENT has declared a State of Natural Disaster for Fiji.

Permanent secretary for Natural Disaster, Meleti Bainimarama said the declaration will be in effect for the next 30 days.

"The Government machinery shall now roll into place to ensure the safety of members of the public, businesses, our economy and national assets," Mr Bainimarama said

Following the declaration, police can now arrest people without warrant who fail to abide by the laws and take advantage of the situation.
