THE Suva Stallions rugby club had its awards night at the ANZ Stadium corporate box over the weekend.

The club said it wanted to recognise the hard work of players after a successful debut season in the Suva Rugby Union.

Known as Shipping Services Suva Stallions, the team which is made up of Nadroga players who either work or study in Suva was one of the forces to be reckoned with in the SRU Koroturaga competition.

After ending the season as the top team on the points table, the side coached by former Flying Fijians fullback Norman Ligairi was promoted in the 2015 SRU Premier grade — the Escott Shield.

And present last week to congratulate the players for their hard work was the Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu.

"This is the team's first year in the Suva Rugby Union competition and we started in the Koroturaga grade," he said.

"And after finishing at the top of the table, we're now promoted to the Escott Shield under the guidance of former flying Fijian Norman Ligairi who has martial links to the vanua o Nakuruvarua."

On that special night, Levani Kurimudu was named as the Koroturaga player of the year.

The thanked players and committee, supporters and sponsors who assisted in the organising of the event.
