Police warn against pointing laser at aircraft

Wednesday, September 03, 2014

Update: 12:30PM MEMBERS of the public have been warned against directing laser pointers at aircraft.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said two such incidents were brought to their attention by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.

Both cases involved deliberate and improper use of laser pointers in the vicinity of airports.

"They were being directed towards aircraft on critical phases of flight such as take-off, approach and landing," she said.

"Members of the public are forewarned that pointing laser lights towards aircraft on approach to land or departing from an airport could blind pilots and endanger the aircraft and passengers on board."
