Family homeless after fire guts home in Korovuto

Update: 5:18PM A FAMILY of four is homeless after a fire destroyed their three-bedroom home in Korovuto, outside Nadi.

Along with his wife and children, Satendra Dass has now sheltered with relatives as his family tries to rebuild their future.

"The house was empty though, and nobody was hurt," he said.

The incident also marred the first day at school for his two daughters, aged 11 and 12.

An officer from the Nadi Police Station said the financial estimate of damage was $60,000, including the contents of the house.

The fire was first sighted at 1pm, before officers from the National Fire Authority responded to the distress call.

NFA chief executive officer, John O'Connor said investigations to determine the cause of the inferno was in progress.
