Target for island team

THE Island Breeze Rugby Plus side has set its target on winning five titles in Australia.

The Ovalau-based side has lodged the visa application of 25 players for their five tournament tour of Australia.

Rugby Plus national co-ordinator, Lasarusa Nasenaivalu said they won four titles last year and wanted a clean sweep this year.

"These are boys from Ovalau who we are taking over for international exposure," he said.

"This is our third annual trip and this time we want to win all the five tournaments we entered."

The players are products of clinics on Ovalau and are eagerly awaiting a positive response from the Australian Embassy.

"The clinics are all about strengthening players from grassroots level to show them the way to become elite players.

"We will use competency based approaches — life, knowledge, skill, character and resources.

"We also teach the players to be self-sufficient using the land for their livelihood.

"Another main aspect of our clinic is chaplaincy so that we can interact with the players and help them in their individual lives and motivate them to think and live positively on the field and off the field.

"We did our own fundraising for the tour but if any business houses were keen on supporting the side then we would welcome their contribution."
