Civoniceva helps Knights win Nadroga 9s title

OUTRIGGER Knights gave credit to rugby league legend Petero Civoniceva for helping the side win its first major title this season.

The Knights defeated Coastal Stallions to win the Nadroga Zone 9s tournament held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Civoniceva recently stayed at Outrigger on the Lagoon Resort for a family holiday and was generous enough to give his time to assist the Outrigger Knights team with their training.

The team benefitted from a personalised training session with the rugby league great who has represented Queensland, Australia and Fiji on the world stage.

Resort general manager Peter Hopgood said it was wonderful of Petero to take time-out from his much needed holiday to assist the boys with their training.

"It is well known that some of the best Fijian rugby league players in the NRL competition in Australia come from the Coral Coast," he said.

"Therefore it is only fitting that we support our local competition plus develop our own team.

"Hopefully one day another great rugby league legend such as Petero Civoniceva will emerge from our local competition.

"And we thank Petero for his kind assistance in sharing his skills and knowledge to help our team win the tournament," he added.

Meanwhile, Nadroga Zone champion Raiwaqa Knights will face Lautoka champion Islands Electric Lautoka Crushers in the do or die FNRL national premier quarter-finals at Lawaqa Park.

In the other quarter-final game, Navosa champion Tuwalu Tigers will battle against Davuilevu Knights.
