Ebola virus: Ministry issues West Africa travel warning

Update: 5:18PM THE Ministry of Health is advising against all non-essential travel to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria because of the threat posed by Ebola Virus Disease (EVD.

The ministry, in a statement released this afternoon, has cautioned all Fijians against travelling to the West African countries until further notice.

"This follows the advice of the World Health Organisation, which has declared an International Public Health Emergency to prevent the spread of the disease," the statement read.

"The ministry wants to reassure the people of Fiji that, to date, there have been no reported cases of EVD in the South Pacific, including Fiji."
