Teimumu shines

NASINU defender Teimumu Moce has forced her way in the 12-member team named by Fiji Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter during the Digicel Punjas Netball Championship held in Lautoka over the weekend.

The former Adi Cakobau School student was aggressive in defence preventing her opponents and national reps Nina Cirikisuva and Maria Lutua from dictating plays.

Moce was a thorn in the Suva attacking force and her perseverance was rewarded after being named in the 12-member tournament team by coach Carpenter.

The tough defender joins former national skipper Matila Waqanidrola, Rejieli Daveua and Luse Kotobalavu in the team named by Carpenter.

Other players that made up the 12-member tournament team are Unaisi Rauluni, Nina Cirikisuva, Afa Rusivakula, Maria Lutua, Alesi Waqa, Deborah Delana, Maria Lutua and Vilisi Tavui.

Carpenter said the 12-member team were the best players during the two-day tournament.

She said the tournament also gave her a fair idea on the make-up of the national team.

"We put a tournament team together and that was an indication on how they performed well during the tournament," she said.

"But I will call a national squad to reassemble next month and there won't be any huge changes to the side.

"We need to have the best and right players to represent the country."

Carpenter said she had also had a list of players who played well in the tournament.

"We have some exciting young under-21 and some youths competing in the A and B grades.

"These young athletes are from everywhere and what we are doing is collecting names, positions, ages and setting up a database and then able to track players and call on them for future squad," she added.
