Police chief apologises to robbery suspect's family

Update: 5:24PM COMMISSIONER of Police Ben Groenewald, over an hour ago during a press conference, apologised to the family of the robbery suspect who died while in police custody.

Mr Groenewald said: "... any death in police custody is a tragedy".

 He said the force had visited the man's family and had also sent senior personnel to the West Division to conduct investigations which was now classified as a criminal investigation.

 "I want to assure this man's family and the general public that I am taking this extreme seriously," Mr Groenewald said.
