West Kaji rugby receives boost

THE Western Primary Schools Rugby Association has received a major boost with Goodman Fielder coming on board to sponsor its annual games which started at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Tuesday.

The three-day event Crest Western Primary Schools Rugby Festival attracted teams from as far as Ra, Yasawa and Nadroga.

Ba, Lautoka and Nadi are the other districts represented.

Association president Albert Wise said Goodman Fielder with their Crest Chicken brand understood the true values of rugby development from the grass root level.

"They are assisting the association by bringing out the talents of these young players," Wise said.

"There are seven categories in the festival from the under-9 to the U14 grades.

"The girl's U14 teams are competing for the first time this year.

"We are looking forward to working with the sponsor towards a rugby development program that is inclusive of age, gender, ability or disability, race, faith and language."

Meanwhile, Lautoka continued its dominance during the festival yesterday.

The U9, U10 and girl's teams are confined to tag rugby while contact rugby is played in the other grades.

The matches will continue at 8am today.
