BUCA villager from Cakaudrove, Jerry Tuwai was named player of the tournament in the two-day Worlds Club 7s meet at Limerick Ireland at the weekend.

Tuwai's Davetalevu team created history by becoming the first rugby club in the country to win this tournament after defeating Vancover 36-12 in the Cup final.

Davetalevu Club Patron Penioni Ratumaimuri said it was a proud moment for the officials and members of the Davetalevu rugby club.

"To win the tournament was huge but for Jerry to be named player of the tournament from this prestigious 7s meet is icing on the cake for our club," said Ratumaimuri.

Tuwai was one of the guest players who was invited by the Davetalevu officials to be part of this team which also included six members of the champion Yamacia sevens team.

"I would like to thank the players and officials for a job well done and also our overseas sponsors but most importantly I would like to thank the Almighty for giving us the victory.

"This win is not only for our club but also for our chiefly house of Nakuruvarua and the Nadroga Rugby Union and of course the Fiji Rugby Union."

He said Tuwai had also proven that he deserved to be in the national sevens squad as he had the speed and his overall performance was superb.

"He has been in the national sevens extended squad for the last two years and I hope he gets the call up as he has proven himself with Davetalevu in the World Sevens Tournament where sevens expert voted him in," he added.

The team will arrive in the country today.
