IT is mission gold for the Sale Sorovaki coached Fiji 7s team as they look to create history at the Youth Olympic Games which starts in Nanjing, China this weekend.

The team departed yesterday oozing with confidence after the much debated tug of war battle to get the release of the five Ratu Kadavulevu School students.

With the matter laid to rest the players are in the right frame of mind to get the job done.

Team manager Ropate Kauvesi said the boys bonded well over the weekend.

Kauvesi said the aim was to win gold and set the platform for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

"The boys are happy and the attitude is right," Kauvesi said.

"Everyone is looking forward to getting across to China and settling down after what all has happened. We have to get on with the task on hand."

The other five countries that will participate in the round robin competition are United States, Argentina, France, Japan and Kenya.

Kauvesi said they wanted to win all the games.

"The boys have bonded well over the weekend and we had a full training session on Saturday," he said.

"The good thing about that the boys jelled together. We are going there to win gold. This is the first time that rugby 7s will be played at the Olympics. It is the buildup to the Rio Olympics, so we want to be the first team to win the gold medal."

The round robin matches will be played from August 17 to August 19.

The final is scheduled for August 20.
