Tough competition at Suva triathlon competition

SIXTY-three individuals and 17 teams took part in the ninth leg of the 2014 Marco Polo Triathlon series at the USP Lower Campus in Laucala Bay on Saturday.

Fiji Triathlon Association president Andrew Pene said the newcomers included Team Adi Cakobau School which had services of Unaisi Vatulili, Maopa Tabualovoni, Oripa Adicoka and Team WHO comprising Tim Noble, Kevin Wong and Peter Hoejskov.

"The highlight was in the 40 kilometre cycling stage of the Olympic distance team category with USP's George Lal overcoming the strong winds to set the fastest 40km cycling time for the course at 1 hour 15.05 minutes," Pene said.

"The USP Triathlon Club is acknowledged for successfully hosting the event with the assistance of Fulton Hogan Hiways and the Navy."

Results

Team Super Sprint event (375metre Swim/10km Bike/2.5km Run): Men - Category Marist (47m.40s) finished 1st, ISS (448m.49s) in 2nd and Enrst & Young (56m.59s) in 3rd; Women's - ISS finished 1st (1h.1m.38s) with Enrst & Young (1h: 7m.31s) in 2nd.

Team Sprint event (750m Swim/20k Bike/ 5k Run): Men - Westpac (1h.24m.33s) finished in 1st, Digicel (1h.34m.22s) in 2nd, Marist (1h.38m.7s) in 3rd: Women - USP (2h.7m.59s) finished 1st, with ACS (2h.18m.46s) in 2nd.

Team Olympic event (1500m Swim/40k Bike/ 10k Run): Men - BOC (2h.42m.59s) finished 1st, with WHO (2h.49m.2s) in 2nd, USP (2h.50m.9s) in 3rd.

Individual Super Sprint (375m Swim/10k Bike/ 2.5k Run): Men - Toma Pene (45m.54s) finished 1st; Women - Maia Ramsden finished in 1st with a time of (56m.38s), with Stella Keenan (59m.25s) in 2nd and Darcy (1h.1m.22s) in 3rd.

Individual Sprint (750m Swim/20k Bike/5k Run): Men - Carl Cameron (1h.39m.10s) finished 1st with Lui Pene (1h.40m.44s) in 2nd; Women - Lavinia Dickinson (1h.30m.15s) finished 1st with Nau Dakuliga (1h.36m.37s) in 2nd and Margot Szamier (1h.43m.26s) in 3rd.

Individual Olympic event (1500m Swim/40k Bike/ 10k Run): Men - Tim Noble (2h.55m.25s) finished 1st with Mark Ramsden (2h.56m.42s) in 2nd, Jerome Pons (2h.58m.54s) 3rd and Petero Manoa (3h.13m.36s) in 4th.
