Bittersweet day for Federation

Dawn Gibson
Wednesday, August 06, 2014

IT WAS a bittersweet day for the National Federation Party yesterday as they announced four new candidates, simultaneously having to rule out two other candidates.

The party reluctantly announced that Makereta Waqavonovono and Jone Vakalalabure were no longer part of their candidate line-up for the September election in light of recent amendments to the Electoral Decree 2014.

"The NFP condemns in the strongest terms, the amendment to the Electoral Decree issued last week with regard to who is "ordinarily resident" in Fiji to qualify to stand for elections," said party general secretary Kamal Iyer.
