Thomas Baker students ready for chef competition

ELEVEN students of Thomas Baker Secondary School travelled about four hours yesterday to participate in the Nadroga Navosa Secondary Schools Chef Competition.

The Navatusila, Nadroga-based school will be taking part in the competition for the first time, said principal Mala Natadra.

"The idea came from the Ministry of Education and I believe this is a good opportunity to expose the students to the tourism field," he said.

The competition is organised by Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji and started at Sigatoka Andhra Sangam College yesterday and would end today.

According to resort executive chef and Fiji Chefs Association president Shailesh Naidu, the competition started three years ago with only one school participating.

"It has now grown to 10 schools from this province," Mr Naidu said.
