A survey of nine villages in the district of Yakete, Ba, revealed 4.7 per cent of the 500 populace graduated from high school.
The survey was conducted by NGO Rise Above the Reef.
Executive director Janet Lotawa said accessing basic education involved a lot of sacrifice.
"One of the things that we also found was that they had to make sacrifices to access basic education at such a young age," she said.
"At the age of five, they are leaving their homes for boarding school for kindy and then on top of that they have to leave again when they graduate ...."
