Voters list out

Nasik Swami
Wednesday, July 30, 2014

THE Fijian Elections Office has released the provisional list of voters for the 2014 General Election.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the release was in line with the Electoral Decree, which required that a voter could only vote at a polling station that he or she had been assigned to.

"The provisional list that we will be releasing today is a list based per venue and this list will contain the name of the voter and the name of the polling venue that the voter has been assigned to," Mr Saneem said.

He said the full list would be released after the close of the registration so that the Elections Office had the final list of registered voters.

"Registered voters can now check this information and ascertain where they have to vote.

"It is important that on September 17, a voter will only be able to vote at a polling station that he or she has been assigned to.

"On September 17, since it is a public holiday, we have utilised the Department of Lands GIS software to locate voters to a polling venue nearest to the residential address provided to us at the time of registration."

He said the provisional list would be updated on a weekly basis.

Members of the public can also send text messages using their Digicel and Vodafone number, free of charge, to check their voting details.

Mr Saneem said information would also be placed on the Fijian Elections Office website and voter information centres and area information centres in the coming days.

The list will also be available for use for electoral purposes and will be sold at $1500.

Voters can also call on the Elections Office toll free line on 545 if they need help from today.
