Japanese celebrate Tanabata festival

Update: 1:32PM THE wives of Japanese diplomats today hosted guests to some Japanese cultural items, commemorating the Tanabata a Japanese Star Festival celebrated every year on July 7.

Items on display included food, clothing, dance and songs.

According to Japanese legends, the festival is to celebrate the meeting of two stars Vega and Altair, who are allowed to meet once a year by the Goddess of heavens.
