TAVUA secured a crucial 21-16 win over Tailevu in the Skipper Cup competition at Garvey Park yesterday.
The win has enabled the side to jump from the bottom end of the points table to claim the 10th spot ahead of Lautoka and Macuata.
Inspired by the home crowd support and the $100 per player incentives, Tavua played their hearts out to secure their second win of the season.
The side which had earlier defeated Suva looked set to end their season on a high note in their game against Macuata next weekend.
Tavua flyhalf Semisi Vauvau scored 16 points for his team with a try, conversion and three penalties.
Waisake Gaugau scored Tavua's second try while Vuniani Cavuilati managed to score the lone try for the visitors with Emori Waqa adding the extras.
Team secretary Cabe Kotoimakogai said the players were determined to win the game.
"The boys did the right things at the right time enabling them to overcome Tailevu," he said.
"We executed our basics right and the boys played smart rugby.
"The $100 incentive also inspired the boys to give their best against a tough Tailevu outfit."
He said the players utilised their possession well against a bigger Tailevu pack.
Kotoimakogai said the side had set their focus in their last game against Macuata.
"We need to lift our game from where we left off today," he said.
"The boys have faith in themselves and they are confident of a good outing next weekend."
