POLICE Eastern was crowned the champion of the Naitasiri Northern Bulls Rugby Union club competition last week.

This is after the lawmen edged Vunimoli 10-8 in the final to win the Maramarua Bowl — the top division competition which is also known as the Tanoa competition.

Police is also the holder of the Sautu Challenge Trophy after defending the title against Vunimoli, Seniyasi, Rara.

The side defeated Viria Blues to win the challenge title.

The Tabua competition which is the second division was scooped by Viria Blues.

The side edged Rara in the final while Qioniwasa beat Lovia to win the third division — i-Wau competition.

Union's secretary John Kaisuva said this season had been challenging.

"Our club competition is over now with Police winning both the top division and the challenge trophy," he said.

Kaisuva said this season's club competition started in January.

He said the 12 affiliated clubs played round robin matches before they were graded according to their standing on the points table.

"This season has been a successful season.

"We had 12 teams which played round robin matches in round one before they were divided into their rankings where Police now is the top grade winner, Viria Blues is the winner of the second grade and Qioniwasa won the third division."

He said they were happy to end the season successfully.

"We hope to build on after this and look forward to the next step — the B division competition."
