Russia commends Fijian peacekeepers

Update: 5:25PM FIJI and Russia have underlined their commitment to further cooperation in the UN, including on peacekeeping issues.

Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov during his meeting with his Fiji counterpart Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, spoke highly of Fiji's contribution to peacekeeping around the globe where Fiji has accumulated rich experience in this area. 

Mr Lavrov was quoted in a Ministry of Information statement commending Fijis forces being the largest force in the UN operation on the Golan Heights, in which Russia is trying to equip it with light weapons and necessary equipment

The two countries are working to provide a coordinated approach when preparing resolutions of the UN General Assembly.
