Tui Cakau among 4 nominees

THE Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has appointed four of its candidates from the Northern Division.

The candidates are Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, former NLC chairman Ratu Viliame Tagivetaua, solicitor Niko Nawaikula and Tui Namuka Ratu Tevita Niumataiwalu.

At yesterday's party meeting in Labasa, three of the candidates were spiritually blessed by Reverend Savirio Vuata in the presence of about 300 supporters at the Labasa Civic Centre.

Ratu Naiqama was not present because of personal reasons.

Party leader Ro Teimumu Kepa thanked the people of the North for turning out in large numbers to show their support for SODELPA.

Ro Teimumu said she was impressed with the traditional and outstanding welcome accorded to her by the people of Caumatalevu.

Highlighting issues the party believed in, she told supporters that when SODELPA got into parliament, they would improve the standard of education to benefit the younger generation.

She said the party would reveal most of its strategies next month.

The Roko Tui Dreketi added they would also work closely with the landowners in the country to develop their land.

She said the party would first consult with the landowners before introducing developments into their land.

Ro Teimumu said SODELPA would not introduce land laws that limited the rights of landowners.

She said landowners must first approve the use of their land before developments took place.
