A 23-MEMBER team from the Fijian Elections Office is in the Lau Group conducting the fourth phase of voter registration and starting with the first wave of voter awareness programs.

According to the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, the team left Suva on Sunday and would cover 19 islands and 70 villages before returning on June 28.

"This ship is going to take the Fijian Elections Office team to the 19 islands in the Lau Group and we will be covering the total of 70 villages that are in the Lau Group," Mr Saneem said.

"We will be going to each and every village and our teams will be going and conducting voter education and voter registration at the same time for those who have missed out."

He said the voter education team was made up of eight people and the voter registration team was made up of 15 people.

"The teams are taking with them the Eastern Division voter list to confirm with the polling stations, the team is also carrying the voter education materials.

"Our registration in the Lau Group has been pretty good previously.

"We don't expect a high number because the Lau Group has had good registrations before and we have been there on many government trips as well to register those who turned 18."

Mr Saneem confirmed the teams would also conduct inspections of polling venues.

"…Some of the islands in the Lau Group have been planned for pre-polling; the teams will also be doing assessment exercise in terms of logistics.

"Another ship will depart for the Lomaiviti Group and we are already underway in the Western Division, Northern Division and in the Central Division."
