Tonga to save the best for the last

Maciu Malo
Saturday, June 14, 2014

THE Ikale Tahi Tongans say they will save the best for the last against the Vodafone Flying Fijians in the PNC rugby battle at Lautoka's Churchill Park this afternoon.

Skipper Nili Latu said his troops would exhaust all gas left in the tank in their bid to defeat the PNC champion.

The tireless open side flanker said the pride for the country and the passion for the game would inspire his side to do well against a star-studded Fijian outfit.

Latu said the players wanted nothing else than a win to end their PNC campaign on a high note.

His best friend and former teammate is Canterbury Crusaders flyer Nemani Nadolo but Latu stated their friendship would be set aside during the 80-minute rugby battle in his effort to make his country proud.

"This is our last PNC game and we need a good performance against the Fijians," he said.

"I have some friends in the Fijian side like Nemani Nadolo whom we used to play together in Japan but it will be a different story altogether when it comes today.

"Nadolo and his teammates will be playing for their country and I will be playing for mine and we gonna go out there and battle to determine the winner."

He said the Fijians would be unstoppable in front of their home fans but he had faith in his players to defy the odds for the hosts.

"Fiji has a very strong side and we need to play hard and smart to beat them," said Latu.

"We have to be on our toes for the whole 80 minutes because Fiji will be very dangerous to contain.

"We have prepared well for the game and we are here to win," he added.

The game kicks off at 3pm.
